Site review from a searcher's perspective. Can Google tell what's accurate / helpful?
Here's a look at why WalletHub is not ranking for "best rewards credit cards". This video goes with the blog post at:

In that post I talk about how Google doesn't actually know whether your content is accurate, with links to a Google slide presentation that says, "When fake understanding fails, we look stupid," and how I believe this will change.

What is Navboost? How understanding this system can help us learn how to rank on Google Search.
Просмотров 650День назад
Navboost is a system we learned about in the DOJ vs Google trial. Did you know that Google stores every query that you search, along with information on what you clicked on and engaged with? I share in this video how this system is described, and also how I believe Google's ability to predict what searchers are likely to find helpful is changing. Mentioned in this video: Blog post on Navboost b...

Looks like ChatGPT is ready to be a search engine.

On Monday OpenAI is expected to announce a competitor to search. I thought I'd test out how ChatGPT Plus (GPT-4) was doing as a search engine. It's not hard to see the value here.
Made a quick GPT to add a background and logo and resize my images.
Просмотров 110Месяц назад
Thought I'd share this. It has saved me a bunch of time today. This GPT adds a border and overlays my logo. It's not always perfect, but when it works it's great! It resizes the images. I can prompt things like: -resize this to 300px wide and rename it to this.... Also, I guess I'll cancel my $15/m subscription to the service I used to use to do this kind of thing!

    We are in the process of taking the word "free" out of our company name after this "helpful content update". It's impossible to offer low-cost walking tours, because, as it turns out, our local, experienced walking tour guides who have always written our content have been deemed less helpful than a handful of big media companies. And now with AI answers, the access points to organic traffic are likely to be cut-off even more. Even our branded search keywords are down significantly. It was a good parnership while it lasted.

      I believe that this was part of why the helpful content system was originally created - Google knew there'd be less need for informational content in an era where AI gives answers based on its understanding of the world, and supported where necessary by Search. This is why Google keeps telling us to produce original, insightful content, because that's what's worth putting in the library amongst what already currently can be found!

    This is what I call living in the Google's bubble. User experience and user intent are two different topics. And HCU is a completly different beast. There are billions of search querries - every single one is unique. Every single one can have hundreds of intents behind it. Google recognize user intent by user behavior such as CTR and bounce back. They don't care if the ad is in the middle of the ingredients list or at the bottom of an article. Or they don't mark a page as unhelpful if they lack an image or they use a popup. Just imagine if they had to do that for billions of pages and taking into account every single scenario or paragraph or web page design or content structure. That's impossible to track and it causes so much noice. Use you brain! Google favors big sites with unhelpful content - that's the helpful content update. This is how they kill AI and this is how they destroy small businesess. Stop living in their Bubble. Btw if you compare the business models of the two sites in the garage niche you'll found out that the one that got penalized was Amazon Associate Site, the other that got boost in traffic is an actual Garage Renovation Company. And if you go a step further and analize the SERP - same story. Google hates affiliate sites, this has nothing to do with HCU. Lots of great and helpful sites with real expertise tanked just cos their business model was affiliate marketing. And you are talking here about having unique images? Nonsense.

    • @gipeon
      @gipeon 8 месяцев назад

      Exactly. If your business model is providing services, in this case SEO audits, and all you think is how to get more clients, every core update and website penalties feels like Christmas. So why not create a video about it and talk AGAIN about user experience, images, ads, and all the nonsense. This happens with every single core update. All the "experts" trying to get a bite of the market share and land one more client. I never call out ANYONE on the internet but this video is exactly what is wrong with the marketing industry. She is actually cheering for more penalties cos that's more business, not thinking straight and how evil G has become. One day it will destroy the SEO audit business as well. I am not wishing that it's facts and it's coming. It happened with Social Media - from organic reach and traffic to paid ads, so these big media publishers pivoted to affiliate marketing with BS content. And they rank for every single search term across all verticals. Helpful content? Yeah right. It's big companies investing and buying more and more web properties and dominating the SERPs.
